National Poetry Day – October 6th 2016

Today is National Poetry day so I thought I would share a couple of poems. Unfortunately I haven’t quite sussed out how to do the formatting but hopefully it comes out okay. Enjoy.

 Rapture

I stand on a wooden footbridge
            look down
                         at the wrinkled stream
            flying fish dive
                        among lilies    burnt-red reeds.
Wild amber browns    forest greens
                        enfold me
            under the clear blue.

Eclipse

Set in slow motion
the moon’s silhouette
cloaks the plate of the sun.

The moon grazes
the sweltering star,
            a solitaire band emerges,
                         black,
                                  broken beams chase the dark.
Blackbirds,
             magpies,
                        crows,
                                    loom in circles,
                                                dance in formation,
                                                            shriek erratic screams.
Atmosphere chills.
The moon's shadow slithers away
–to reveal a daylight sky.
